A truly awesome versatile Pack
I picked up my pack a fortnight ago from central Christchurch to replace my old 30 litre pack which was literally falling apart, took it home and got to know just what it was capable of.
The plan was to leave the following weekend for the Godley Glacier so packed all the gear including a tarp for three days and two nights. That filled the 28 liters with room to spare for my 5 lite food bag, total weight 7.65 kg.
The roll top is possibly the most successful design for multi sized loads and the Fiord 28 is superb providing you like top loading. The Fiord has good side compression cords and locks so the load can be held in place for a comfortable carry; there are two capacious side pockets and easily take a liter water bottle etc. On the hip belt are two more pockets big enough to carry a camera, PLB, phone and a snack. The hip belt is removable for UL summiting.Fully loaded the pack carries very well, good padded harness and load lifters snug everything down. Ready for action we set off for Tekapo Saturday morning

The weather chose otherwise, the Macaulay was up and snow was falling up the Godley Valley so plan B swung into gear; Do the Otago Gold Trail then explore the Otago Peninsula for three days. Not at all what was planned but a great trip none the less.

The Fiord 28 is a great pack which carries enough for a 5 day trip going UL with the 35 liter extension but is equally at home on a short day hike shortened down to 20/25 liters. It is well made as one would expect from Macpac and the soft back pad is just so forgiving and comfortable and cool.It even makes a nice pillow for camping!

zip pockets - are there any?
john c on Apr 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: There are two small zip pockets on the waist belt. One each side. No other external or internal zip pockets.
I have three questions:

1) What are the outer dimensions of the sack?
2) What size torso does it fit best?
3) How much water resistance does it have, and what rain cover options are there?

Thanks! Awesome looking pack.
Matthew R on Jun 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Matthew. Answers to your questions below:

1. approx. length 80cm x 40cm and depth 25cm when packed.
2. It is a standard size harness so no adjustments can be made. The length of the torso is approx. 45cm
3. It is made from Titan grid 100D Nylon silicone coating, highly water resistant but not waterproof. A raincover is advised.
We sell rain covers in size 25l an 30l.
Can this be used for mountain biking?
Nicole P on Apr 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Nicole, while this pack isn't specifically designed for cycling, we don't see any reason why it couldn't be used on a bike. Thanks.
