Why we made this
Designed for committed alpinists, the winter-weight NZAT Down Quilt 700 features water-resistant goose down and can sleep up to three individuals.
  • Product Description
Climbing light without compromising your safety is a constant battle in the mountains. Our NZAT Down Quilt 700 offers a novel solution: designed in collaboration with the New Zealand Alpine Team (NZAT), this sleeping bag alternative reduces the need to carry individual bags on alpine trips. Intended for winter mountaineering, but equally at home hiking and camping, this rectangular quilt can sleep up to three individuals at a time. Simply fasten the four side straps and the top and bottom bungee cords around the sleepers to keep the quilt secure. Featuring premium 850 loft HyperDRY™ water resistant RDS goose down within an ultralight and windproof Pertex® Quantum outer shell, every component has been considered to reduce weight and maximise warmth. Please note: we haven't attached fixed temperature ratings to this down quilt because it does not meet the traditional sleeping bag testing requirements. Testing requirements specifically consider the warmth of one individual inside an insulated bag, whereas this is a 'quilt' style insulation piece and is intended for multiple people to use at the same time, so as to save on weight. That being said, this quilt features 700 g of 850 loft HyperDRY™ RDS goose down and NZAT members have used it successfully in cold conditions.

Great idea for weight saving ...
Confession - I don't actually have one of these BUT many years ago Macpac brought out the Neve sleeping bag, which doesn't have any feathers on the bottom side, but has a sleeve for a sleeping mat. Therefore all the feathers/warmth on the top and it is very warm (plus you don't slide off your mat. Obviously can't share it the same as a quilt, but can testify to gain in warmth to weight ratio, and not needing feathers underneath. Bag still going strong (with regular use over the years) else a quilt would be very appealing to replace it. Would go for a smaller size for just one, and even better weight saving?
