Macpac Duolight Tramping Tent
Why we made this
Our lightest two-person tent, the Duolight is perfect for the weight-conscious tramper or trekker wanting a highly livable, two-season tent.
Engineered for minimal weight, optimal space and weather protection in New Zealand's conditions, the Duolight is as good as it gets. The tent weighs in at just 2.17 kg and with two main poles and small ridge pole between the dual entrances, the Duolight tent maximises liveable volume. Our factory seam-sealed fly is constructed with UV20™ PE fabric, a quality material that strikes the balance between weight and performance. Coated with silicone on the outside to repel moisture and PE on the inside for waterproofness, UV20™ PE offers the weather protection you need during the summer. The Duolight utilises mesh extensively throughout the inner, allowing greater airflow for comfort in warmer climates. Two generous vestibules provide space for cooking and gear. We've incorporated the Multi-Pitch™ system, allowing you to pitch the fly independent of the inner so that the inner stays dry when packing up in wet conditions. The Duolight’s DAC Featherlite NSL™ poles are green anodised, minimising the use of toxic chemicals during the production process, while also providing strength and stability. The Duolight is designed to support two people tramping or trekking below the snowline in summer. Lighter than our three-season Minaret tent, however, the Minaret is a better option if you wish to camp above the snowline.

The perfect tent for us
My wife and I were looking for a simple, good quality tent for overnight trips, not planning to go out in the snow or harsh conditions. This tent is perfect for us: every aspect is well thought through, elegant design, spacious and light, easy to erect and pack away. Our first night out, it rained heavily so that a rivulet formed under/around our tent; nonetheless, we remained completely dry inside. Highly recommended.

Great tent, very happy with purchase
Purchased the duolight prior to Christmas. As I am not a small person, 103 kg and 186cm tall, I needed a tent that had enough head to toe space to be comfortable, light enough to carry when I am trekking on my own and quick to pitch. The added bonus was Macpac were having a 40% sale when I was considering my purchase. Clearly the tents were popular as they sold out in store and on line very soon after I purchased my tent. The tent was erected in store so I was able to make sure it was going to have the length I needed and all other features were evident. Took the tent out for a 'test run' to Marramarra National Park and it was excellent. The compact size of the tent and poles meant I was able to pack it inside my Back Pack. Pitching was quick and easy and as I was on my own had plenty of space with ample head and leg room. The internal pockets were very handy as well. A nice bonus was the aluminium tent pegs, a bit different to the old heavy steel ones I used to lug around. Equally easy to lift up and shake out the few leaves etc I had accumulated during my stay and packing up was effortless. A few weeks later, my wife and I used the tent for a short car camping trip and she used a blow up single mattress and I used my sleeping mat beside her. It has been a horrendously hot day (43c) and the benefit of being able to have two openings in the tent and fly meant we were able to capture the cross breeze that sprung up later in the evening. Whilst there was not a lot of space left over once we put our bedding in the tent, it was still perfectly suitable for the two of us. My wife is also a tall person. Have not pitched in the cold / wet as yet but I am sure that will be on the cards soon enough. For the moment, the tent has exceeded my expectations and requirements.

We really liked this tent, we went from the minaret (which was great) to the Duolight to save weight. On our first pitch we go the tent up in 2mins! Self supported too so we could lay in it to see where the best area was to sleep before we pegged it down. The Duolight has good ventilation for the hot nights and has the multipitch system for the hotter nights. The two vestibules were a huge positive for us, as it allows a place to cook under cover and a place to put bags, leaving heaps of room on the inside to make yourself at home. It has a high ceiling so you can sit up and stretch in the mornings and after hiking, with many pockets on the inside and a hook in the centre to hang a lantern and other things from. Overall we saw no downside to the tent and are extremely satisfied with the purchase, we plan to put it to the test on the Te Araroa trail this year, and cant wait!

This is one of the best tents I've used. Easy to put up , light and Roomy oh did i mention light. Would fit 3 easily in an emergency so plenty of space for 2. Would recommend this to any one wanting a serious tent that isn't going to weigh you down. But also has the space and features that make a good tent great. Plenty of storage with 4 large pockets 2 two each end. A central clip to hold a light .Two entries so you don't have to climb over each other to get in or out (always a bonus for late night toilet needs). Plus dual vestibules all go to make a brilliant tent.
Looking forward to many enjoyable trips with this tent

Are there any better pictures of the pole structure? We are after a tent that has multiple crossings and will keep up in a stiff NZ norwester.
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jaimita, i have emailed you pictures of the pole structure and a brief description. Hope this is helpful, cheers :)
What is the weight of the tent in my pack? There is a huge difference between max and min weight in the specs.
BEST ANSWER: Good question. The total weight (fly/poles/tent) is 2.17kg and the weight of just the fly and necessary poles will be 1.36kg. As this is a multipitch tent - you can pitch just the fly, or both the tent and fly together depending on conditions and your weight restrictions for carrying.
