Why we made this
Our toughest solo tent, this Macpac classic is built to withstand all four seasons and is ideal for climbers and trampers. <br>
  • Product Description
Using a single ridge pole, the Microlight tent is designed to minimise weight, shed snow and remain stable in high winds. We chose to make the fly out of UV30™ SI, a silicone-coated fabric known for its strength, water resistance and UV protection. The floor is built with our legendary Torrentwear™ XP tub, designed for maximum waterproofness and durability. We've incorporated the Multi-Pitch™ system, allowing you to pitch the fly independent of the inner so that the inner stays dry when packing up in wet conditions. Designed for the tramper or climber, the single vestibule provides enough space for cooking and some gear storage. To insulate for four-season warmth, we've built the inner out of ripstop nylon and included a large double door that can provide airflow when it gets hot. We’ve created a unique vent system that encourages airflow, managing condensation without compromising insulation. The Microlight tent is designed to support a single person above and below the snowline through all four seasons. Warmer than the two-season Sololight tent, but also slightly heavier, the Microlight is the best choice if you value durability and wish to comfortably use a tent in full alpine conditions.

fantastic tent
I used this tent for many years in USA on the PCT, across Corsica for the GR20, numerous treks in NZ, in Australia, in Yosemite, all across the UK, slept in 60mm of water in Wales-never got wet. Sadly it went under water in a local flood in 2011 and I will buy another. Great tent with the best floor in the business. Footprints are useless if you're sitting in water.

This tent quite literally saved our lives
Just got back from a trip you don't want. A friend &amp; I got caught out on the tops in Tararuas, exhausted and in trouble. We opted to hunker down on the leeward side of the ridge on a slightly less angled slope about 1.5m by .75 m. Just barely big enough to pitch the tent. We spent 20 hours, two of us huddled inside with a 300m drop below us and 160km wind gusts. After setting off our PLB and hanging on, my pack was tied to one end and the wind kept picking it up and trying to sail away, but the tent held on! It literally did save our lives until SAR got to us. It didn't rip, protected us from the lashing rain, and near freezing conditions. Unfortunately SAR wouldn't try and save it, so it's on the loose somewhere, but I am going to replace it! Thanks Macpac for making such good gear.

Great tent
I am using microlight tent from last one year. It's easy to put up, lightweight, enough room for one person and a backpack. It has also survived in heavy winds and storms beautifully. I would highly recommend this tent.

Still going
Purchased in 2002 and it's still going strong. Good all year round including uk winter, snow and wind. Easy to put up and take down. Cosy ie warm. Great for one small person with motorbike stuff.

Needs more ventiolation!
After 2 month of every day use: A lot of condensation even with the vent window fully open. Just needs an additional vent to create air flow. This was very annoying.

Peg inner and outer separately
I have had one for years, hundreds of nights. Never pitch inner and outer together with the buckles supplied. Outer up first to suit ground levels etc. Then the inner to suit and always with max tension to prevent sagging. Take the inner down and pack it first; then pack rest of your gear; then the fly as the very last before setting off. Brilliant tent if pitched to suit both it and the weather - learn from experience and you will both improve with age!

An awesome tent, but sagging issues need fixing
Love this tent and have used many times for tramping in all conditions. Very waterproof and never had any leakage issues. Love the double skin and lack on mesh on the inner - keeps the tent warm in winter (you can simply take the fly or keep the door unzipped in summer). The only issue is the sagging of the sides inside the tent. This is a design fault that Macpac really needs to fix in this tent. A number of friends in my tramping club have this tent and we all agree this is the only downside of this tent - no matter how much tension you put on the tent, it still sags. Hope this will be passed onto the Macpac designers to look at - with a few tweaks this tent will be unstoppable!!

Fantastic solo option
I bought this tent to use on a multi-day timed hike where weight was at a premium. It fulfilled every requirement I could have - solid construction, goes up in only around three minutes when used to it, and stayed very dry inside during rain. Realistically weighted, for this level of comfort and peace of mind I don't see how much lighter it could be. Great piece of kit, really glad I own it.

Good, light, but needs design review
Bought as a light weight option for hiking the Australian Alpine Walking Track - in stages. Well shaped and copes with wind and rain. Great you can sit up in it. But fussy to set up on anything but perfectly flat ground or the inner sags in badly. You need to squash in heavy gear to hold back the billowing inner. Once done it is fine and I fine that OK, but pretty poor for a long standing design. Set up always far easier with inner left attached. As this means the inner can get wet I always use a light groundsheet on the inside. Overall happy enough and would recommend, but suggest a careful comparison with other options - depends on what features you prioritise.

Light and compact for the elements
I brought this tent as something light enough to take along tramping but also roomier than my single man Kathmandu tent which I was never able to sit up in. I am 160cm tall and can just sit up comfortably in the middle with my sleeping mat underneath. When lying down there are well placed interior pockets and it is very roomy. This tent was comfortable enough for a 7 day climbing camping trip. It was very much rain proof and suitable for my needs. I have still yet to take it tramping!
