We’re really excited about the Hightail. We’ve tested it out ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies, alpine climbing in Fiordland and most recently on a summer alpine trip to the Bugaboos also in the Canadian Rockies, It’s been great as an item you throw on if the weather turns, or as an outer layer to keep the damp out when you’re climbing. Most importantly, it packs down to almost nothing, with virtually no added weight - See more at: http://blog.macpac.co.nz/new-zealand-alpine-team/#sthash.wjwNvVAc.dpuf

Waterproof and extremely lightweight!

Dan Murphy, 12/12/16

Just recently got back from a very wet ride on the "Old Ghost Road". The hightail was really put to the test, we had steady West Coast Rain for about 3 hours and this jacket kept me bone dry underneath. Great design to allow for the helmet but also not to let the rain in. Seems to breathe really well, no unnecessary cuffs or padding around hems to soak up water either. Packs down to nothing, perfect for mtb and lightweight back-country missions. Nice work macpac!

Ultralight and Ultrawaterproof but Ultra Fragile

Scott, 15/04/18

I love this jacket. It packs down into it’s own front pocket and weighs (quite literally) next to nothing. It is a permanent feature in my day pack for hiking, walking, mountain biking or whenever I’m out and about. It comes in such a small and light package that you’ll end up taking it with you as an insurance policy against wind and rain on every trip.

Very effective against wind and rain but very fragile material. Not at all abraison resistant. There are definite worn patches from where I’ve worn day packs and hydration bladders over it. Definitely not suitable for wearing under a tramping pack.

Hightail rain jacket

Vivienne Bunny, 19/03/18

I used this on the Tour Aotearoa cycle trip this February with lots of rainy days. This jacket proved ideal as was light and very waterproof. Hood was excellent as it fitted over my cycle helmet. I choose the Mens jacket Sulphur colour for visibility on the road. Only complaint was poor design of front pocket which filled with water and held it there until I emptied it. Dont carry cell phones there or anything that does not like water in front pocket.
