Scarpa SL Active Boots — Men's
Why we made this
A serious hiking boot that balances performance, durability and comfort, the SL Active is designed for trekking in harsh conditions.
The Scarpa SL Active is the 9th generation of this classic, really tough trekking boot, now even more luxurious and comfortable. The new SL is now built on the latest TM last shape, giving an improved heel fit and closer fit across the forefoot. The redesigned upper uses a soft nubuck leather cuff with a cut out at the Achilles, as well as redesigned flex zone, giving greater comfort on long descents and ascents in the mountains. The revised speed lacing system gives a sure hold across the instep, and the plush leather lining inside the boot is instantly luxurious and comfortable. The SL is built using a 2.8mm Sherpa leather (the toughest and most water-resistant of any full grain leather SCARPA uses) infused with HS12 and build as a one piece construction for durable weather protection. The SL also uses the Vibram biometric trek sole for traction and support when carrying a large pack. The leather and 37.5 lining (and lack of membrane) make this a brilliant boot for warm weather trekking.

Absolutey the best boots available!!
I upgraded to these boots from the last top of line model, mainly due to sizing issues that was my fault. They were and are a fantastic boot, and these are significantly better. These boots are lighter, the shape of the toe is better, the sole has more grip and they will still last a lifetime. In Australia, in my opinion boots with waterproof membranes; are a very poor choice. They may be good in Europe and North America where they are made, but for Australian walking conditions these leather boots are the best. I did a walk in Tas last year in torrential conditions, with over 100mm in 1 day, and the track was a river by the end, and the only dry things on my body were my feet! You can apply multiple coats of Sno Seal as advised. Make sure you heat the boots very hot with a dryer, and you can give 9-10 coats no problem. The build, structure, design and comfort of these boots are second to none. For people who want light boots, these are lighter than their predecessor, and you do notice it. You can and will get lighter boots than these, but the performance in all conditions and life will not compare. Being leather these are great for summer conditions in Australia with rocky or any conditions. If you want the best, this is it, don't compromise. Money is negligible with a lifetime boot.
