The New Zealand Alpine Team (NZAT)

They've ventured into the depths of New Zealand's harsh alpine wilderness, scaled the most difficult rock faces you can find, and reached some of the world's highest peaks. Elite mountaineers, the New Zealand Alpine Team are all about pushing the limits, exploring unknown territory, and inspiring the next generation of alpinists. Their adventures are unlike any other, and they often find themselves in dangerous conditions, so having gear they can rely on is of the highest importance – in many cases, the right gear can even save lives.

Since 2013, we've been working alongside the NZAT to reinvent alpine gear. Our Alpine Series is the culmination of this partnership – a journey that has extended from the design floor to testing and refinement on some of the world's hardest alpine routes.

Alpine Series

The group teamed up with Macpac two years ago, forming a partnership that has led to the development of our technical mountaineering range – the Alpine Series.

Alpine Series products undergo a rigorous testing process, with prototypes regularly taken on NZAT trips to assess their performance. These products are then refined on the design floor, and retested as much as is required to ensure they are able to stand up to the demands of alpine climbing before they are released into the market.

Bulletproof

Peter James, 24/02/16

This thing is insane. I coveted the previous model and was super disappointed when this one came out because I thought it looked like a big black Glad garbage bag. The material felt too light to be tough... and it can't be waterproof... surely? But don't let first look and touch fool you. Super tough and super light, I've wandered in the snow and the pouring rain and all dry inside. Amazing. And it's warm. So, so warm. Yet I've been indoors with it on and I haven't cooked either, so somehow it works inside and out. Don't ask me how. I would classify myself as a medium. But I was talked into the small. Glad I did that. It fits snug and that's the key with this jacket. Thank god I didn't get the previous model. It was heavier and wasn't as waterproof and this thing packs into a matchbox. OK that's an exaggeration, but it does pack into next to nothing. My favourite jacket ever. Only disappointing thing is that I can't wear it in summer. Spend the extra cash on it. It's worth double. And no, I don't work for Macpac.

great jacket.....

Logan, 31/08/16

O.K. first off the jacket,
Super warm and full of lofty goodness, well made as far as i can tell so far, double stitched on the storm flap, little hole for your mp3 player head phone cables, a decent sized internal pocket and hand pockets are big enough to get your hands in even with gloves on, the hood is fantastic design that covers your face and a nice little peak to stop it covering your eyes, the shape of the jacket is quite good too, its longer at the back so your bum stays warm, and if you bend over your builders crack is still hidden :D
The jacket comes with a stuff bag, but you can also stuff the whole jacket (minus the hood) into 1 of its own pockets,
Sizing: larger than the norm, eg im xxl normally, but a xxl in the jacket is massive, had i bought it instore and not online i would have just got an xl,
but being on the wrong side of the world that wasn't an option,
Shipping:
speaking of being on the wrong side of the world, when the jacket turned up i also got the bonus of an 82 euro bill on top of the purchase price :( because they had shipped out of nz and not a european retailer, bugger, and to top that off they had sent the orange jacket not the grey jacket.

not to worry, its still a great jacket at the end of the day despite being a bit large, the wrong colour and costing an extra 80 euro

Fantastic jacket for harsh conditions

Alex, 31/08/16

Have had this jacket for two years now, on and around Ruapehu is where it gets most of it's use. Fantastic for the typical Ruapehu weather. The changeable conditions don't phase it, with it's (comparatively) hard wearing event shoulders and hood, the sudden onset of rain doesn't ruin your day, and the insulation seals out the wind even better. Only downsides are that it is too warm to wear in the warmer weather, and that for whatever reason I have wispy bits of down squeezing their way out the stitching at the bottom.
