Warmth without weight
This is a dam tidy design for a mid layer fleece. That new fancy Italian fabric has the snugglyness turned up to 11. As an insulator I think this is a superior choice over down, given that a down jacket stops working when wet. I think this fleece is going to become my regular adventure companion. Side note - Rolled up, it also makes a great pillow tucked in the hood of your sleeping bag :)

Hmmm not for Alpine
Totally fine and super comfy for kicking about in the cold. But over heats with little breathing if you working hard. Too bulky for good layering and takes up a lot of space in your pack. The torso is too short at the front when your arms are above you. So not great for climbing.

Great piece of kit
After suffering many years with free event fleeces I needed a new top to ski, travel and hike in. The technical build with good fit and stretch panels along with the thumb holes (fits under gloves) and light hood (under helmet) make it great for the mountains and tested in some grim conditions. The only issue I have is when skiing on a cold day you can feel the cold seeping through the thinner stretch panel under the arms, but overall core body heat isn't affected. The inner pile feels great. Nicely done Macpac.

The only fleece you need
I have used this for the past 2 years skiing and climbing. In fair conditions it is the perfect midlayer and if the wind picks up just put a wind shirt over the top. I took it to 6500m in Nepal with just a 260 thermal and a windshirt. Ice all over me but warm and toasty. If the weather gets worse just continue to layer over it. The perfect fleece for me.

I've had this fleece for nearly 2 years now and can't fault it. I use on farms in all weather and occasionally on the tops in the mountains. If you want more windproofing then pop a light coat over top. However with 2 layers on underneath I find this jacket does the job and is plenty warm enough . It'll handle a shower or 2 no worries. The hood is fine, it's like wearing a light beanie, which would fit well under a helmet I guess.

My Go-To Hoodie
This has been my go-to hoodie for the last year. Warm, not particularly windproof but the inner fleece makes up for it. The hood looks ridiculous, so don't expect it to be useful if you're looking on buying it. Other than that, it's a great hoodie. The inner pocket is great for phones in poor weather.
