Why we made this
Our much loved Halo Down Jacket — ideal for outdoor adventures, this jacket features responsibly-sourced down and responsibly-produced bluesign® approved fabrics.
  • Product Description
The legendary Halo Down Jacket is warm, compact and a great all-rounder — perfect for urban adventure, travel, hiking and camping. Filled with 600 loft Responsible Down Standard (RDS) duck down and featuring elasticated cuffs and an adjustable hem, this jacket works to keep you warm by trapping heat against your body. The lightweight nylon outer fabric (and lining) is bluesign® approved and features a short-chain C6 water repellent finish to protect against moisture. A separate stuff sack is included for convenient storage when packing your bags for the next adventure. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is an independent, voluntary global standard in the ethical sourcing of down and feathers — the RDS ensures our down comes from humanely treated ducks and geese and helps to provide traceability in our supply chain. All our down is 100% RDS certified. Similarly, bluesign® certification confirms these specific fabrics have been manufactured with responsible use of resources and the lowest possible impact on people and the environment. Both the outer and lining fabrics are bluesign® certified in the Halo Down Jacket.

Awesome jacket
Love my new jacket it is super warm and really light to wear. I wear it every day to and from work and school and kindy drop offs and pick ups. I’m a size 10-12, I got a size 12, I can fit a hoody underneath quite comfortably. This is first down jacket I have brought, well worth the $.

If Down Squashed on Arrival
I noticed a Review said "pathetically thin" .... if it was Courier delivered in it's provided sack the Down can get squashed and appear very thin ... I had that happen with a Vest. I gave garment a GOOD shake. ... flipping it many times like you do when shaking a mat. The Down soon puffed up like it should be. It was a Black Vest .... while the Navy Black-Iris delivered OK!

Does this jacket have a hood?
Hannah B on Apr 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Hannah, no hood on this one, but we do the Halo with a hood - check out this link: https://www.macpac.co.nz/womens/jackets-vests/down-insulated-jackets/macpac-halo-hooded-down-jacket---womens/114250.html#q=halo%2Bwomens&lang=en_NZ&start=5

If my chest measurements are within range of a certain size, would I need to size up if I wanted to wear the jacket over top of a jumper?
Paige W on Jun 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Paige,

It depends on how close your measurements are to the next larger size. Imagine you're wearing a jumper and if your measurements are in between those listed in the size chart, we recommend picking the next larger size.

Macpac Team
Love the violet colored jacket does it not come in size 20?
Pauline N on Jul 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Pauline,

Great color isn't it! The Halo is available in size 20, please cal your local store to see if they have stock. www.macpac.co.nz/our-stores

I got my jacket and it’s really flat. Does it get “puffy” on its own? or?
mele1505 on Jun 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello Mele, good question! Please do give it a few weeks to puff / loft up. It is likely this jacket has been in it's compression sack from factory for a few months - so will get better with time.

Thanks , the Macpac Team
Would the Southerly and Halo be the same size-wise?
Jennifer D on Jun 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your enquiry.

I can advise that the Halo style is a little bit longer and a bit more of a boxier fit than the Southerly.

I have a Fairydown Puffer that MacPac sold a few years ago. How does the sizing compare to these ones?
Hayley on Apr 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello Hayley, very hard to say depending on model. But if the models are similar then the sizing is very likely to be the same. One thing we would recommend is don't upsize on the Halo - this is generous sizing to allow for a few layers underneath.

Thanks the Macpac Team

I have a big chest and find the 20 tight. If I go to men’s, what would be the size up?
Sandra H on Apr 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Sandra

We're sorry to hear you're struggling to get the perfect fit. If you want to look at / purchase from the men sizes, we'd recommend you take measurements against the mens sizing chart, you can find that here https://www.macpac.co.nz/sizechart-mens-clothing.html

Kind Regards,
The Macpac Team!
A lot of reviews comment on loss of feathers. Why does this happen on some jackets? Can the jacket be returned if it’s ‘leaky’?
Kristine H on Feb 22, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello Kristine, thank you for your question. You will find all down jackets will leak a small amount of down from new. This is feathers (which are very fine) coming out from the stitching. This will settle down with use, and should be much better after 4 weeks or so. If the feather is coming from the material itself, it's important to try and work the feather back into the jacket, as pulling it out will leave a small hole in the material. Of course if you are unsatisfied after this, you are more than welcome to return the jacket for assessment, and a full replacement or refund will be offered if considered faulty. Thanks the Macpac Team
Hi , extremely happy with the jacket , but haven’t washed it yet .can you please advise about the Wash care . Can I do a machine wash?

Thanks
Pri
Priyanka on Aug 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Wash only as necessary
Warm hand wash in non-detergent pure soap or Nikwax Down Wash®
Handle with care when wet
Rinse well by gently kneading the down
Do not bleach
Do not use fabric softener
Dry flat in shade initially, then tumble dry on low heat several times to separate the clumps of down
Do not dryclean
