Why we made this
Light and luxurious, the Jupiter has a high warmth-to-weight ratio with 650 loft RDS duck down for cosy warmth.
  • Product Description
The sister of our men's Mercury Down Jacket, this cosy insulation layer is made with ultralight nylon fabrics, both of which (outer fabric and lining) are bluesign® approved. This certification confirms these specific fabrics have been manufactured with responsible use of resources and the lowest possible impact on people and the environment. To complement these fabrics, we’ve used 650 loft RDS duck down fill for warmth — the ‘RDS’ stands for the Responsible Down Standard, which is an independent global standard for the ethical sourcing of down, a standard we wholeheartedly support. To aid heat retention, we've added a soft elastic binding to the cuffs, hood and hem, effectively helping to trap heat against your body and keeping the cold out.

Fabulous
Red jacket - a beautiful red! Size 14 fits well with usual winter clothes underneath. Extremely warm, for wearing to work, walking the Dogs’s, and put on cold evenings ❤️

Light as a feather
Light, warm, looks good, sizing needs to be updated for modern sizing on women it’s almost like your size is actually the next one down ( therefore it doesn’t fit ), take a leaf out of Kathmandu, they’ve updated their fits.

Very Light, Very Warm
Warm and roomy, and certainly aesthetically pleasing.
I was surprised at how wet the cuffs and sleeves became during what was a fairly low-key late afternoon walk, with only moderate sweating. This isn’t something I’ve noticed before, as my other down jacket comes from the Macpac alpine series (I’ve slept in it, among other tramping-related things, and feel like I’ve put it through its paces). This considered, the Jupiter feels like one best worn with long geothermal or merino sleeves.
Still, very light and very warm. Amazingly warm, actually.

Lovely and warm
Absolutely love my jacket... when it arrived tucked up in it’s pocket I had my doubts on how something that could be compacted down so small could keep me warm! The first frosty winter morning proved me wrong. So light yet so cosy.

Buy it
Bought the black version, it has a white lining in hood, pockets and inside. It’s a good fit, true to size when wearing 2 layers under it. It’s toasty warm and lightweight. Wore it in 7 degrees yesterday and i was warm. There is a wet look shine, I like this.

I like the lightness of the jacket and it is really cosy. I picked it also for the hood which I've not had on previous down jackets. I like to wear it on windy days to protect my ears. I can't comment on warmth because the temperatures have not been cold enough yet to tell. I love the colour, red with purple lining. I collected wild blackberries last evening and had no container for them so popped them in my hood and of course the purple juice didn't stain my purple lining because the berries are the same colour! I'm looking forward to winter in my new Macpac Jupiter jacket.

would it be ok for snow / skiing ?
kusinka on Jun 18, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Kusi,

Thank you for your question.

This depends on the days conditions and the level at which you are skiing. On a bluebird day it would be alright but if there is any moisture in the air it wouldn't be ideal as the down will compress when it gets wet and wont keep you as warm. Also, if you are doing lots of skiing it might actually be too hot. We would recommend the Power ski jacket instead!

Thanks - the Macpac Team
Which is a better choice for me (female) the halo or the Jupiter? Are they both waterproof and to what extent? Does the J sweat? Does the white inner of the J discolour? Thanks

How does it compare with the Macpac SuperNova for warmth?
Liese on Apr 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Liese The SuperNova is a goose down, light, pertex (so water repellent) jacket. - SuperNova is the old version of the current Icefall. Jupiter is a DUCK down, a little bit heavier, and non pertex down jacket, it is also a bulkier fit. Really two different jackets for different use. Jupiter jacket is not as warm as Supernova jacket. You can checkout a comparison here: https://www.macpac.co.nz/on/demandware.store/Sites-MacpacNZ-Site/en_NZ/Compare-Show?category=womens-jackets_vests-down_insulated_jackets Kind Regards, The Macpac Team!
Hi does this jacket repell water?
Max I on Apr 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Max

The Jupiter is not waterproof or water repellent treated (not DWR - durable water repellent), it would suitable only for repelling light showers between the car and house etc..

if you are looking for a waterproof option check out our raincoats here: https://www.macpac.co.nz/mens/jackets-vests/rain-jackets

BEST ANSWER: Hi Adrienne,

The Jupiter and Halo jackets are similar in warmth. The Jupiter has higher warmth to weight ratio compared to the Halo, meaning it is lot lighter and approximately the same warmth.
