Why we made this
A high performance alpine softshell, the Fitzroy is engineered to provide weather protection and freedom of movement while climbing or hiking in winter conditions.
  • Product Description
Designed and tested in partnership with the New Zealand Alpine Team (NZAT), the Fitzroy Alpine Series Softshell Jacket is water resistant, wind resistant and breathable — proving it's worth time and time again on winter climbing routes in New Zealand and around the world. Providing flexible and durable protection from the elements, the Fitzroy fabric incorporates elastane fibre for stretch and the design uses careful underarm patterning to increase mobility through the shoulder so you can move freely, whether you're climbing in the alps or hiking in the high country. Critically seam sealed through the hood and shoulders to deflect the worst of the weather, the Fitzroy is about targeted protection and elevated performance in abrasive, alpine environments. Helmet and harness compatible, this jacket has raised hand pockets for easy access on the go, a high collar and adjustable hood for protection and an internal stretch cuff to keep the warmth in and the cold out.

Practical as both mid and outer layer
Disclaimer: I'm an ambassador. Having said that, I review what I like best. I've used this jacket extensively for back country ski guiding and ice climbing and alpine guiding in Utah and Nevada. The dry desert climate here means that I can use this jacket as either an outer layer or as a mid layer. When it snows here, the jacket repels all but the dampest days just fine. The pockets are well placed, hood works well over a helmet and I love the clever sleeve within a cuff - it stops water from running down my arm when climbing. I'm 166cm and 62kg, athletic build and the size 10 is a good fit over other layers. As a mid-layer, I could have gone for an 8. Sorry, could not attach photos. Goes well with the Fitzroy pants for climbing.
