Why we made this
One of our most versatile tents, this Macpac classic is a three-season, two-person hiking tent that maximises aerodynamic stability in strong winds with a Multi-Pitch™ tunnel tent design.
Macpac Minaret Two Person Hiking Tent
  • Product Description
Constructed with a two-pole tunnel design, the three-season Minaret is one of our classic transalpine hiking tents. Engineered for maximum durability and aerodynamic stability in high winds, the Minaret comfortably sleeps two people. The Multi-Pitch™ system offers ultimate versatility, allowing you to pitch the fly and inner together or separately. In addition, the Minaret’s design also allows you to pitch the fly and inner at the same time while connected — an advantage in wet weather. The waterproof UV30™ SI fly is made from a silicone-coated nylon fabric known for its strength, water resistance and UV protection. It has a 3,000 mm hydrostatic head. Please note, this fly needs to be manually seam sealed with the provided SilNet™ seam sealer. A Torrentwear™ XP tub floor design is both waterproof and durable, keeping the water out and removing the need for a separate footprint. Two DAC Featherlite® NSL™ poles are included — these poles are developed through DAC's 'green anodizing' process which helps to minimise toxic chemicals in the production process, which is better for workers and the environment. A large vestibule provides sheltered gear storage and features a retractable floor for cooking, while the double door, internal mesh and vent system improves airflow in warmer climates. Designed for use above and below the snowline, the Minaret is warmer (and slightly heavier) than the Duolight. If you’re looking for a four season tunnel tent, try the Olympus Alpine Tent.

I need a replacement tent for backcountry motorcycle trips and am tossing up a minaret or duolight. I’m 181cm tall and need to sit up up in the tent preferably without fighting the inner. It also needs to cope with wind when near the coast. Any recommendations between the two?
Lloyd W on Jan 27, 2021

Both of these tents are about the same height. The Minaret being 1000mm and the Duolight being 1050mm. With the tunnel shape of the Minaret, this would be best suited to cope with the wind, but the Duolight would be roomier inside.

Hi, is there a way to buy replacement poles for the minaret tent? I have a pole that’s broken and would hate to have to buy a new tent. Cheers
Lisa E on Jan 6, 2021

Depending on the age of your tent, this is a possibility. Please contact the Customer Care team directly and they will be able to assist further. When doing so, please give as much info as possible and a couple photos of the tent may help too.

What is the weight of the inner?
John B on Nov 7, 2020

Unfortunately, we don't have the inner weight on file. We only have the min/max weights.

Hi Macpac, I am just curious about how the name - Minaret - was selected for this tent. With reference to the English dictionary I would assume that many people of the Muslim faith would be hugely offended by the name Minaret for a tent? Thanks
Mia W on Nov 2, 2020

The Minaret was named after the Minaret peaks in the Southern Alps – there are actually 2 peaks (East and West) at 3040m just north of Aoraki/Mt Cook on the Main Divide.

The Minaret tent’s bigger sibling, the Olympus, is named after Mt Olympus in the Craigieburns. Both are locations in the South Island of New Zealand.

The Macpac Team
Can you explain why this tent is rated as "three season"? In comparison to the olympus the only difference seem to be the slowflaps on the olympus.
Admiral on Oct 23, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Thorsten,

You can absolutely use the Minaret in the Winter, but the Olympus would shed snow better with the 3 pole design, and the added space inside and dual entries are probably better suited to winter use where you’d have more gear. This is why the Minaret has a 3 season rating.

The Macpac Team
it appears as though just by threading the poles through the O rings on the inner tent, you can just use the inner?
Edward R on Sep 28, 2020

Yes, you can pitch the inner and fly by themselves if you wish.
The below link is to a video with further information on this.

Have a few galaxies of pin pricks that don't seem to have penetrated the floor but are transparent looking into the light. Any recommendations for self-repair? Ie. what to use?
Curly on Aug 31, 2020

If you are unable to take this in to be professionally repaired, then you may want to try the Gear Aid Seam Grip and Adhesive product.

The Macpac Team
Can you please tell me the length of the tent (inside) sleeping area at the shortest point? Would need it to big enough for 2 people 182cm tall?
Jacob on Aug 27, 2020

The measurement to the shortest point is around 172cm.

The Macpac Team
Is this tent free standing? Or does it need to be pegged on all points to stand strong? Just thinking for setting it up on rocks/loose ground etc?

The Minaret will need to be pegged down to stand strong, but the Duolight can be free standing due to having the dome shape.

What is the difference between the two types of pegs? What is their intended use?
joshua s on Apr 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Joshua, One set is for the fly and the other set is for the tent itself. Thanks.
What is the internal dimensions? I see the specs show area but I'm more curious about width, length and height. Thanks.
Manoel M on Jan 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Manoel. Height is 1000mm / Width is 1150mm / Length internal is 2100mm with a vestibule length of 400mm
