Why we made this
With a comfortable load carrying harness, the Cascade 65L AzTec® Hiking Pack has been a favourite of New Zealand trampers for decades.
  • Product Description
The Cascade is an iconic Macpac hiking back that’s faithfully served generations of explorers around the world. A tough workhorse that’s engineered for both comfort and durability, this 65 litre hiking pack is an ideal choice for multi-day adventures. The Cascade has a clean and functional design that incorporates our Liberator™ harness system — this harness provides support and stability as well as effective weight transfer through to your hips and legs for easier, moderate load bearing. Made with robust and weather-resistant Eco AzTec® 8 oz. canvas fabric with a 500D Cordura® nylon base, this pack is constructed to survive abrasive environments and unforgiving weather. It features a large main compartment with an internal base compartment divider, dual ice axe (or walking pole) attachments and it's hydration compatible.

Suitable soap types are: pure soap, vegetable soap and Nikwax® Tech Wash®
Rinse the pack well and dry it in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight
Do not put your pack in the washing machine as this will void your warranty
Always try to keep the zip teeth clean — wash with fresh, clean water and lubricate with a silicon lubricant suitable for use on fabrics
Do not tumble dry, iron or dryclean

Comfortable and functional
Absolutely love this pack, having used it in mostly alpine environments. The extra features aren't too excessive or overkill. I have used this on an ice climbing trip so it held all my gear and axes nicely. The 75 Litre option might be better if going on a more solo and technical trip as my climbing gear did take up some space. The interior remained dry during snow, only the interior of the lid was damp, however I believe this was due to condensation from a cold water bottle. My only issue with the pack is the zipper on the bottom compartment can be very fiddly and doesn't close or open very well, especially with cold hands. Overall, very impressed. I am 178cm and use a size 2 which is perfect. There is room behind the harness to add a small seat cut from foam without affecting comfort.

Hi
Is this pack one compartment completely without bottom compartment where zips are used to put sleeping bag in.?
Danny on Sep 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Danny,

This has a single compartment with an internal compartment divider, which can be accessed from the outside as well.

Thanks,
The Macpac Team
What does it mean by hydration compatible? Is there a specific compartment for my Camelbak bladder? I can't find one...
Scott C on Aug 31, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Scott,

This means that there is a opening for the bladder tube to come out of, but not a dedicated compartment for the bladder. The opening is just under where it says "liberator harness".

Thanks,
The Macpac Team

I am a female about 5.7 , what size is best for me?
Caroline D on Aug 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Caroline,

As the fit isn't necessarily based just on height, we would recommend heading into your nearest store to be fitted by one of our trained staff, or use the size guide to determine the correct harness size for you.

Thanks,
The Macpac Team
Hi! Is this bag black or more like a grey/blueish colour? I saw a grey/blueish one in the store. Thanks
Alva L on Jun 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Alva,

Thanks for your question.

I can advise that the slate colour is more of a grey with a blue undertone. There is a black one too however this is only made with the 75L, not the 65L.

We hope this helps!

Thanks - the Macpac Team
What is the best way to re-waterproof Aztec canvas? my Macpac pack is around 6 years old and seems to hold more water in the canvas now when it rains etc.
Carl O on May 31, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Carl,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would recommend Nikwax for this. A cotton proofing one would be best. We do not have this available currently however this is something we are potentially looking at introducing soon.

Thanks - the Macpac Team
how can I make the pack sit higher up? At the moment, with the hip belt around the top of my hips, the pack sits to low & a lot of weight on my shoulders.

Cheers
Ken

BEST ANSWER: Hello Ken, thanks for the question. We would strongly recommend popping into one of your local shops to get a fitting. Alternatively we would suggest searching "how to fit a pack" on YouTube for online solutions.

Thanks the Macpac Team
Is it possible to switch/replace the hip belt on these? I am a very thin guy with a very long torso, and I've owned one for years, making due with a hip belt that is really too large for me. I would like to swap the hip belt for a women's size. Is that possible? Thanks!
Christian S on Jul 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hello Christian, yes it is possible to change the hipbelt on the cascade, there are S1, S2 and S3 sizes available. I would recommend an S1 hip belt in order to make it smaller (women's hip belts are not available). The pack can be sent to repairs to have this changed or depending on the stock available your local store may be able to help. The new hip belt is priced at $39.99
does this pack come with a rain cover?
annagrace on Mar 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Anna, no this doesn't come with a rain cover. However this fabric is highly water resistant. Rain covers can be purchased separately, please see link below. Cheers :)
